Volunteer of Year Award |
In 2003, an avid supporter, relentless volunteer and fan of Ringette with two
granddaughters in our organization sadly passed away. Jerry Miller was a tireless worker
that almost no one could keep up with. He was, among other things, a mechanic, a
carpenter, a plumber, an electrician, a computer tech, a baseball coach, a teacher and
most of all, the ULTIMATE volunteer. Co-workers in the English Department at Medicine Hat
High School presented our association with a donation in memory of their colleague and the
association executive concluded that a plaque, inscribed in Jerrys memory, would
honour him and his accomplishments as well as other dedicated volunteers in years to
follow.
In keeping with this tradition we are looking for your nominations for Volunteer of the
Year for the 2006-2007. Please forward all of your nominations to Sandra Mason by October
14th, 2007
sammee@telus.net
If you have a specific reason for nominating someone please include this and it will be on
the voting site for everyone to read.
These nominations will then be available for your votes through a confidential web site
with the final tabulation being done on November 1st with presentation of the plaque on
the night of the Parent Social during Ringette week. (date and time to follow)
Think about who you would like to see honoured this year.
Past Recipients have been:
Ed and Vivian Horvath
Dave and Pat Yip
Tom Plante
Sandra and Michael Mason
Thank you for your time.

BRONZE - Belle A Division - City of Bridges Tournament - Saskatoon
February 16-18, 2007
Cypress Insurance Junior A VALTA participated in the City of Bridges
Tournament Belle A division at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. VALTA got off to a
rough start dropping their first two games and then finding their pace winning the next
two and earned the BRONZE medals. These were good games and will help in VALTAs
effort in March 2007.
It was a TEAM and CROWD vote that Kelsie Lake had the play of the tournament, Kelz scored
with 3 seconds left in the first period of game three. This is of notable reference due to
the fact she scored on a male goalie that plays at the AA level in the other ice sport,
but was playing for Saskatoon, it was from the free pass dot at center ice. Head Coach
Bill Haney sent her to center with her instructions, the whistle blew and Kelz scored over
his shoulder top corner on the stick side. It was a wild one, one that her and Bill had
actually tried in the last practice.
Game results were as follows:
Game One: VALTA 3 vs Red Deer Fusion 9
Game Two: VALTA 3 vs Regina RIPT 6
Game Three: VALTA 5 vs Saskatoon ICE 4
Game Four: VALTA 5 vs Saskatoon ICE 3 (BRONZE MEDAL)

Automotive Adrenalin - Petite A |
GOLD - Sweetheart Tournament, Kelowna
Feburary 8-11, 2007
<Photo>
The girls started out with a 6-1 win over Surrey/Whiterock, Dakota Schacher lead the way
with 2 goals, singles came from Morgan Barth, Paige Schrieber, Samantha Dupley and Nicona
Brost. The round robin continued much the same way with a 4-1 win over Vernon and a 5-1
win over Kelowna. Into semi final action against Fraser Valley and by far the most
exciting game of the tournament. The Adrenalin were down 3-1 at the end of the first and
were able to come back to tie the game 4-4 with 3 goals from Dakota Schacher. With minutes
left in the game the Adrenalin ran into some penalty trouble and Payton Schmidek was
called on to stop a penalty shot which she did to send the game into OT. Samantha Dupley
found the net just a minute into OT to give Adrenalin the win. The gold medal match found
the Medicine Hat squad up against a powerhouse team from Delta. Team Adrenalin was ready
and wanted the win to make the long trip worthwhile. The game was fast paced and exciting
and once again the Adrenalin were able to dominate. They captured the win with Paige
Schrieber netting a hat trick and Courtney Lehman adding one in a 4-3 win. This is the
first gold medal in Team Adrenalins history..
